Hyde Park is mainly a residential community with a leafy suburban feel and an abundance of natural resources within and nearby. Yet it also has a large Carribean flavor with many Jamaican, Haitian, Dominican and Puerto Rican residents and visitors. It is one of Boston's largest neighborhoods, bordered by Mattapan, Roslindale, Dedham, and Milton. Hyde Park has a very warm, down-to-earth vibe as you walk through Hyde Park's Cleary Square. The Square is so quaint that it reminds you of some of the little towns located along the Cape. Cleary Square boasts an array of small shops on Fairmount Avenue, Hyde Park Avenue and River Street. Specialty businesses range from fine wine shops, like Albert Winestein to hometown eateries, like The Hyde. Every summer in July there is an Artscene Block Party that hosts music, food, vendors, and various activities for children. One of the main attractions in the square is Riverside Theatre Works, which hosts plays and theater workshops year-round. Hyde Park's community spirit is evident when you venture into the many neighborhoods that make up this interesting community. There are a plethora of beautiful parks which offer both adults and children recreation and relaxation. The many outlets offered range from tennis, basketball, baseball, and pools that attract the many families residing in the Hyde Park area. Check out Reservation Skate Park, to hone in on your skateboarding or biking skills. The George Wright Golf Club, named for Baseball Hall of Famer and Cincinnati Reds Shortstop George Wright, is in Hyde Park. The golf course is a Donald Ross-designed course and is considered one of his finest designs, recently refurbished and getting rave reviews.
